Thanks to funding from the UK Space Agency and NERC, Techniquest is launching a space-themed STEM enrichment weekend through 4–6 May.
The Association for Science and Discovery Centres’ ‘Our World from Space’ is a two-year national programme that aims to make space science as accessible and engaging as possible, and our site is one of just 22 chosen to deliver it.
Across the weekend, we’ll have space activities going on in the Science Theatre, KLA Lab, Learning Hub and Planetarium for all ages and abilities — here’s a little more about what you can expect.
Our fantastic team will be teaching you all about the wonders and dangers of space exploration in Technispace: Blast Off! across all three days in the Science Theatre. It’s suitable for ages 5 and above, meaning even our most formative STEM learners can come and enjoy it.
Craft your very own mini-satellite and learn more about how they work in the Our World from Space workshop, hosted in our KLA Lab for ages 7+. This has more limited space and is only running from the 4–5 May, so book your spot quickly!
If you’re planning on enjoying the festivities, be sure to add a free 3D experience to your ticket when you book online. AstroCymru are hosting some fantastic 3D space shows in the Learning Hub on the 4–6 May for over-7s.
Why not take a mesmerising journey through Earth’s different ecosystems while learning how satellites are used to capture important conservation data? If you like the sound of that, bring your over-5s and book a slot to watch We Are Guardians in the immersive 360° Planetarium.
And if that’s not enough, we’re also running our usual Star Tours shows in the Planetarium, suitable for ages 7 and up.
Again, we would like to extend our thanks to the UK Space Agency and NERC for funding the event, and to ASDC for organising the programme. We can’t wait to host you for the weekend — it’s going to be out of this world!
