Friends of Techniquest attend an exclusive first look event of our highly anticipated Science Capital
In 2020, we’re set to open our latest project, the Science Capital – which aims to drive more footfall in to the centre than ever before, hit new audiences, and get Wales invested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
The Science Capital aims to give valuable insight into STEM; appealing to new audiences through a range of brand-new exciting exhibitions and products. The new extension will see a 70% increase of exhibition space and will offer added value to its user experiences, with its view to make science inclusive for all. The centre will be transformed and focus on five key themes – Environment, Medical Biology, Space, Chemistry and World Issues.
We revealed plans at an exclusive event earlier this week for our Friends of Techniquest – who got to the chance to have a ‘first-look’ at exhibition plans and see the area in which building work has begun.
Techniquest’s Head of Projects, James Summers spoke to guests about plans for new exhibitions at the centre and revealed;
“We have plenty of exciting and innovative content coming to Techniquest next year, and we’re really excited to reveal all to the public; especially since this was a real community effort to decide what the new Science Capital should offer. After months of research with local communities and our visitors, it was evident we needed to digitalise, so our new exhibits are just that. This gives us a new way of being ‘hands-on’ in science, and appeal to an older audience.
Our five core themes are just the start of our awesome new content and will have the opportunity to grow over the coming years. We’re really excited to showcase what we have to the world and become a leader in science education throughout Wales.”
An earthquake simulator, a virtual operating table and a hurricane tunnel are just a few of the new exhibits you can expect from the Science Capital in 2020, and they’ll be over 50 new exhibits installed ready for launch.
Today’s economic struggle means it can be especially hard for those in the third sector -and that includes us! However, thanks to the support from Wellcome and the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (Beis), we’ve been able to adapt and evolve to overcome these challenges, and we’re very grateful to all our supporters.
