Education charity Techniquest has launched new conference and event facilities following a refurbishment.
The science discovery centre in Cardiff Bay is now available to hire for an array of events and functions, including business meetings, team building days, Christmas parties, awards dinners, product launches and conferences, catering for up to 400 people.
The new waterfront meeting and conference facilities have been created by Interserve, after the construction and facilities management company donated products and its staff’s time for free in support of the charity.
Techniquest will provide a fun, scientific and unique backdrop for both personal and business events, whilst enjoying a prime location in Mermaid Quay.
Home to 120-hands on exhibits, a Science Theatre, and a Planetarium, Techniquest has already hosted the Cardiff Blues team for a team-building day and hosted over 100 guests at its own 30th anniversary celebration last year, where Virgin Galactic’s commercial director Stephen Attenborough was guest speaker.
This is the latest move from Techniquest which is focusing on diversifying its revenue streams in light of challenging funding cuts.
Lesley Kirkpatrick, CEO of Techniquest, said: “Despite going for 30 years, many people are still unaware that we’re a charity. Over the last few months, we’ve been on a journey and long term programme of change and re-focus to ensure Techniquest has a sustainable future.
“While we remain committed to ensuring that Wales develops a scientifically literate society through interactive STEM engagement, we have also need to look at how we diversify our income streams.
“With such an iconic building in the heart of Cardiff Bay, offering our space to hire for events seemed like a natural step. We have already hosted our own 30th anniversary party here so know it’s a great facility for corporate events.
“After a refurbishment thanks to Interserve, we’re thrilled to launch our conference and events facilities, and we’ve already had a great deal of interest in this new side of the business. We hope this will add a little something different to our guests’ big events, and we can’t wait to get started.”
