Techniquest

Over the summer, Cardiff primary school students experienced an immersive film hosted in our mobile planetarium as part of the Food and Fun scheme.

Since piloting the idea in 2015, Cardiff Council has run the scheme for schools in the area with the aim of “working together to promote healthy living, support positive well-being and improve engagement with education and the school during the summer holidays”.

From Grangetown to Llanishen, the Techniquest team made visits to more than 20 schools during the holidays, treating the pupils to showings of We Are Guardians.

The film — an immersive 360° experience that takes viewers from the depths of the ocean to the spacecrafts orbiting the Earth — has been running daily in our 4K (stationary!) Planetarium over the summer, too.

After they finished for the day, Community Outreach Officer Ana-Mah polled the children on how much they learned and enjoyed themselves.

An important part of taking Techniquest on the road, receiving feedback ensures that the team can continue delivering experiences that are both engaging and educational for the local community.

We would like to thank all the schools who welcomed us over the break, all the helpful staff on hand, and, of course, all the pupils who took part — we can’t wait to do more soon!
