Techniquest

At Techniquest we want to inspire people from all kinds of backgrounds to explore and discover, bringing science to life for every generation: to encourage curiosity about life and the world around us, both on this planet and stretching far out into the cosmos.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) all have a home here and are waiting to be explored. Get hands-on with our exhibits, bring them to life and start your journey of discovery right here.

Techniquest isn’t just a great visitor attraction. We work all year round with schools, students and teachers to help bring STEM subjects to life, planting seeds of curiosity across the education spectrum.

Our team have produced digital shows linked to the curriculum, to help classroom learning across several Progression Steps and Key Stages.

We run Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses for teachers to make sure they can help their students to become the best they can be. And every year we facilitate the Nuffield Research Programme, connecting Year 12 pupils with professionals in the field of research, providing unrivalled opportunities for them to gain experience creating and presenting data-led reports.

Home Education is an increasingly important ingredient in today’s educational menu. We run sessions specifically tailored to Home Educating families on certain weekday afternoons. In addition, our newly-launched online shop is filled with engaging books and interactive science kits to support home educators and all of those families looking to engage in STEM learning from the comfort of their own home.

As well as our regular public visitor and schools’ sessions, we aim to open up the world of science and technology to the very youngest in our monthly Toddler Days — and to the more mature through our Over-50s Science Cafes. We also run Adults-only events with our Adult Lates and After Hours series at different times of the year, where anyone over 18 can join us for a more relaxed experience of the exhibition, with a few drinks on tap and not a child in sight.

Techniquest likes to work in partnership with others. We seek out connections with businesses and organisations where we find synergy with our aims and ambitions.

Some of our exhibits are a direct result of those partnerships in action, including the British Heart Foundation, Sonnedix Solar Energy, Cardiff Metropolitan University, NatWest, CSconnected, and the National Imaging Academy Wales.

We also love a good party!

We host birthday parties for children and adults alike, as well as a wide range of corporate events, such as networking events, dinners and conferences — and even weddings.

You’ll also sometimes find us out and about, sharing our love of science with the wider community.

Whether it’s time for slime with a group of youngsters in Merthyr, or delivering a rainbow bubble and magnetic paining workshop at the Pride Festival in Cardiff: we love getting out and about to share our passion for science with everyone we can, so keep an eye out for our Community Engagement Officer, Ana-Mah and other members of our team on your travels.

If you want to keep up to date with all that we’re up to at Techniquest, sign-up to our newsletter and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn.

Thank you

None of this would be possible without the generosity of individuals, businesses, trusts and foundations who all contribute to keeping Techniquest open and active.

From adding a donation and Gift Aid to tickets, to providing major grants to create programmes for schools, or bringing new exhibits to the floor: as an educational charity we’re heavily dependent on our ticket sales and on all those who support us.

If you’re one of those people already, then thank you, you’re vital to everything we do!
