Research Placements & Experiences provides over 1,000 Year 12 students with the opportunity to work alongside STEM professionals.

Techniquest is very excited to be managing the placements for Wales again this year, supported by STEM Learning.

The prestigious Steve Bowden Award being presented to winner Julia Krokosz, in 2023.

Year 12 students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects at a state-maintained school or college in the UK are eligible to apply.

There are two types of placement we offer:

  • Research Placement

    • 2-week collaboration with a STEM-related placement organisation expert
    • Work on a live research question or area of development
    • Produce a scientific research report/presentation and a poster
    • Opportunities to contribute to your host’s current projects
  • Experience Placement

    • 5 day explorations with industry experts
    • Identify essential skills for employment in STEM
    • Produce a workbook log for the duration of your placement and a poster

Available research projects all contain scientific or technical content, and may be based in laboratories, field work or offices.

Placements take place across the UK during the Summer Holiday period, and are administered in Wales by Techniquest. We are here to help you every step of the way.
